It is a heavy metal object.There are three speeds and it oscillates.It can also be tilted to aim right where you need the wind.The lowest level is pleasantly strong, mid-level is pretty windy, and the top speed is a bit gusty and loud.I am very happy with the quality and finish of the fan.Would highly recommend this oil rubbed bronze fan.
